Get Help With Village Tech Tools

Helpful technology classes are available at the Bob Sellards PC Club Learning Center adjacent to the PC Club workshop on the third floor of the Community Center. Open to Village residents and their guests, PC Club classes are free but donations are welcome at the door. Registration is required prior to each class.

Southern California Edison (SCE) staff is scheduled to make a presentation to the Laguna Woods City Council regarding an income-graduated fixed-pricing proposal that SCE has submitted for consideration as part of the California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) proceedings to implement recent changes in state law (California Assembly Bill 205, Statutes of 2022). SCE has posted information on its proposal at www.sce.com/customer-service/keeping-bills-manageable/fixed-charge.

The presentation will occur during the Laguna Woods City Council’s next regular meeting on Wednesday, February 21, at 2 p.m. at Laguna Woods City Hall at 24264 El Toro Road. The meeting will be live streamed on Zoom and broadcast live on Channel 3 (within Laguna Woods Village). The Zoom link will be published with the meeting agenda packet, which is available on the Laguna Woods city website.

Please note that this presentation has been arranged for informational purposes only. Electric utility rates are not set by the City of Laguna Woods, and the Laguna Woods City Council does not have the ability to approve or deny changes in SCE’s rates or rate structure.

Have you ever wondered how the total assessments you pay in Laguna Woods Village stack up when compared to other active 55+ communities? With support of the VMS board of directors, the Financial Services Department has prepared a cost breakdown of various 55+ communities that compares average basic assessments, common-use amenities, total assessments, community locations, home values and amenities offered, and more. 

The data is telling—favorably for Laguna Woods Village. Third and United mutuals together are by far the largest representation, with 12,425 homes, compared to the next-largest community with half the number of homes and a total basic assessment that is more than twice that of United’s and almost twice that of Third’s.

As work on Interstate 5 (I-5) in Orange County continues, California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced the closure of the I-5 El Toro Road southbound off-ramp this weekend from 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, to 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5.
