Tune in to TV6 any Thursday in October at 7 p.m. for the Club de rendimiento Sunshine‘s tribute to David Hartman. Originally presented as “An Evening of Song — Sunshine and Raindrop with Jackie O’Neill at the Piano” on June 9, 2019, at the Performing Arts Center, the free show raised $4,000 for the Fundación de Laguna Woods Village from audience and sponsor donations.
When David first came to the Village in 1994, most of his hours were spent on the golf course and in the billiards room. But in 2006, Sunshine Lutey heard his voice during an impromptu music session and soon had him participating in musical gigs inside and outside the Village.
In 2007, David convinced Sunshine to create a new Village club as a platform for Village residents to display their talents and enjoy an engaging musical show while raising funds for charity. In honor of his soon-to-be wife, he named the club Sunshine Performance Club.
The club presented 24 musical charity shows during the 12 years from 2008 through 2019 and raised over $100,000 that went to four charities—MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center Foundation, Fundación de Laguna Woods Village, Alzheimer en el condado de Orange y Kiwanis. During most of the 12 years, David actively sang and played golf and various types of billiards. At 98, he still sang and played poker.
After suffering a fall inside his home on Friday, September 23, 2022, the Village and world lost a caring, loving man and a beautiful baritone voice on Saturday, October 1, 2022. But his spirit and voice live on.

The Department of Recreation and Special Events extended hours for Clubhouse 1 and Community Center fitness centers.
Beginning Monday, October 3, the Clubhouse 1 Fitness Center opens at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday. Closing hours remain the same. The new schedule for the Clubhouse 1 Fitness Center is as follows:

The ongoing drought and increase in water rates mean water conservation is more important than ever. Third Mutual recently approved resolution 03-22-98 regarding water use (United Mutual is currently considering the same).
Third residents now must limit their use of potable water for watering exterior plants from hose bibs to Wednesdays and Sundays only.
On July 28, 2022, the Water Conservation Committee recognized that the State of California is experiencing record drought conditions, requiring parts of Southern California to reduce exterior irrigation water use.
On August 4, 2022, the Landscape Committee unanimously endorsed this recommendation to the Board of Directors.
Passing this resolution incurs no additional cost to Third Mutual, and there are potential operational costs savings from a decline in water use.
