Help Facilitate Street Sweeping

Moving your vehicle on street-sweeping days is a great way to make a positive impact on the environment and keep the Village beautiful.

Street sweeping plays a crucial role in preventing pollution by removing debris, oil and harmful particles that can clog gutters and pollute local waterways. Federal and local regulations, including the Clean Water Act, require municipalities to help reduce pollution, and your cooperation makes a difference.

By moving your vehicle, you help street crews clean every inch of the street, from curb to curb. A single parked car can block nearly three car lengths of space from being swept.

Click here to view and/or download the Village street-sweeping schedule (all times are approximate and subject to change), or visit lagunawoodsvillage.com/services/maintenance and click “Maintenance calendar” under “Community maintenance schedules.”

A Guide to Ting Internet Installation

As technology continues to advance, the benefits of high-speed internet become increasingly vital in our daily lives, connecting us to friends, family and a wealth of information at our fingertips. For many, the thought of setting up new equipment can seem daunting.

However, with the arrival of Ting Internet and a technician ready to help you, there’s no need to worry. This article will guide you through the process of welcoming this new technology into your home and understanding the benefits it brings.

What Is Ting Internet?

With your Ting Internet 2 gigabit connection, residents of Laguna Woods Village will have speed and reliability. With this level of service, you can enjoy seamless streaming of your favorite movies, quick downloading of important documents and smoother video calls with your loved ones. The technician who visits your home will ensure that Ting Internet, the Eero Router and two wireless devices will be set up so you can enjoy these benefits without a hitch.

Notification Schedule

Residents can expect to receive notifications of their installation approximately 60 days and 30 days before the scheduled installation. A 21-day, three-day and one-day reminder will follow.

Correspondence will come from a dedicated email address and telephone number:

Preparing for the Technician’s Visit

Before your technician arrives, please take a few simple steps to make the setup go smoothly:

  • Clear a space near your existing modem or router.
  • Make sure an electrical outlet is available nearby.
  • Think about which device you’d like connected to your new Wi-Fi, such as a smartphone, tablet, laptop or smart home device.

A little preparation will help speed up the installation and get you online in no time.

What to Expect During the Installation

When the technician arrives, they will first assess your current internet setup. There is no need to disconnect your pre-existing internet service. The technician will then set up your new modem and router, ensuring they are properly connected to your new Ting Internet service. With Ting’s advanced technology, they will help your devices get online quickly and efficiently. Before the Ting technician leaves, your internet and two wireless devices will be working on the Ting network. The technician will ensure your cable television is working properly.

Throughout the process, don’t hesitate to ask questions! Technicians are happy to explain what they’re doing and how each piece of equipment works. Understanding your technology can make you feel more comfortable using it.

Connecting Your Wireless Devices

Once the router is set up, the technician will assist you in connecting two of your wireless devices. You will need to know your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password. The technician will provide this information and guide you step-by-step to connect each device to your new network. Most devices have an easy-to-follow process for joining a Wi-Fi network.

Enjoy the Benefits of Your New Connection

With your Ting Internet service up and running, you’re now equipped with one of the fastest and most reliable internet connections available. Whether you’re catching up on emails, chatting with family on video calls or exploring new hobbies online, you can do so with greater ease and confidence.

Remember, you’re not alone in this process. Ting technicians are not only experts in setup but also friendly guides who are happy to answer your questions and ensure everything is working just right before they leave. And should you ever need support in the future, visit tinginternet.com/lagunawoodsvillage.

Welcoming Ting Internet into your home means embracing a smoother, more connected lifestyle without the stress. Once you’re all set up, take a moment to explore the digital world at your fingertips.

Introducing the Ting Ambassadors

As Ting fiber internet expands throughout the Village community, we’re excited to introduce a team of dedicated local volunteers—your Ting Ambassadors.

These ambassadors are fellow residents who are passionate about helping their neighbors get the most out of Ting’s blazing-fast fiber internet. Whether you have questions about installation, want to learn more about internet speeds, or are simply curious about how fiber technology works, they’re here to help.

You’ll find them at Ting-hosted events and other neighborhood gatherings—ready to share updates, answer questions, and provide direct feedback to the Ting team. So go ahead, say hello and tap into their tech-savvy know-how!

Meet Your Ting Ambassadors

John Cornell

A retired professional photojournalist, John saw the dawn of the digital age firsthand. As president of the National Press Photographers Association in the late ’90s, he helped lead the transition from film to digital, teaching workshops, testing beta hardware and guiding newsrooms into a new era. Now, he’s excited to help neighbors embrace the next leap forward with fiber internet.
Fun fact: Over the years, John has photographed popes, presidents and politicians, only to discover they’re not always as noble as they seem.

Cheryl Fennik

A 12-year resident, Cheryl brings a warm, welcoming presence to her role. She’s a retired gate ambassador trainer, current Mac Club board member and a familiar face to many. She’s passionate about helping others stay connected and informed about technology in the Village.
Fun fact: Cheryl is a ballroom dancer, paddle tennis player and musical multi-instrumentalist, and can be found walking over 4 miles a day.

Gary Russell

Gary is president of the PC Club and regularly teaches classes on streaming, broadband and networking. With 40 years in tech, including time as an engineer and executive at Raytheon, he’s eager to guide residents through the transition to fiber alongside his fellow ambassadors.
Fun fact: After leaving the corporate world, Gary ran a smart home automation business and still geeks out on gadgets.

Dave Weingartner

With a career rooted in technology and networking, Dave brings both experience and a love of learning to the Ting Ambassador team. As a Mac Club volunteer, he already enjoys helping fellow Villagers navigate tech challenges, and is now looking forward to supporting the community through the transition to fiber.
Fun fact: He used to play the French horn and is currently into the indie-pop sounds of The Beths.

Cyndee Whitney

Cyndee has been a joyful voice in the community for over a decade as host of “Discovering Laguna Woods” on Village Television. Her passion for celebrating neighbors and community events now extends to helping residents connect more easily online.
Fun fact: Cyndee loves grown-ups who aren’t afraid to be a little silly, especially in public.

Dennis Kelly

As president of the Mac Club, Dennis is already a go-to resource for Apple users in the Village. Becoming a Ting ambassador was a natural extension of his commitment to helping others navigate technology with confidence.
Fun fact: Dennis is an avid cruiser and enjoys taking two to three cruises a year.

Fire Up the Grill Safely

Summer is here, and with it comes perfect weather for outdoor barbecues. To stay safe while enjoying the season, please follow grill safety tips and use regulations.

United Mutual BBQ Safety Tips

United Mutual references Orange County Fire Authority guidance regarding BBQ safety.

Grilling Safety Tips

  • Use propane and charcoal BBQ grills outdoors only.
  • Place grills the furthest point from the building within the exclusive use common area.
  • Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area.
  • Keep grills clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grates and in the underneath catch trays.
  • Never leave a heated grill, lighter or matches unattended.

Charcoal Grills

  • Use only charcoal starter fluid if you use any. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire while cooking.
  • Let coals cool completely when finished cooking (about 48 hours) before disposing in a metal container.

Propane Grills

  • Check the gas tank hose for leaks before grilling.
  • Get the grill serviced by a professional before using it again if there is a leak. Call the fire department if a leak occurs while grilling.
  • Turn the grill and gas off if the flame extinguishes and wait at least five minutes before relighting it.

Third Mutual BBQ Rules

  • Gas-fueled and electric grills are permitted in all buildings (including all multi- and single-story buildings.
  • Propane tanks are not to exceed the standard propane tank size of 20 pounds, which are commonly found at grocery stores, home improvement stores and gas stations.
  • Charcoal grills are permitted only in single-story buildings and not multistory buildings.
  • Third Mutual is authorized to take disciplinary action against a member found to be in violation of the barbecue rules.

Laundry Room Do’s and Don’ts

The laundry rooms are shared amenities for the community, and it’s in everyone’s best interest to keep the machines in good condition. Please help keep the washers and dryers running smoothly by following these do’s and don’ts.

Washers

Do:

  • Use high-efficiency (HE) detergent, suitable for both HE and regular washers
  • Wash full loads but avoid overloading, which can hinder cleaning and rinsing
  • Use warm water (90 – 110°F) for better cleaning and fabric care
  • Select the correct setting based on care labels (e.g., normal for bed sheets)
  • If using detergent pods, place them directly in the tub and not the dispenser, and only when the washer is empty
  • Leave the washer lid open after use to let it dry and prevent mold

Don’t:

  • Use non-HE detergent, which creates too many suds and prevents proper rinsing
  • Use the wrong dispenser, which can lead to soap buildup or blockages
  • Place detergent pods in the dispenser, which can cause malfunctions
  • Use too much detergent or softener, which can cause staining and other issues
  • Fill the dispenser past the line, which can cause spills and stains
  • Overload the washer, which reduces effectiveness and may cause damage
  • Keep the lid closed after use, which can cause mold and mildew

Dryers

Do:

  • Clean the lint trap after every use to improve efficiency and prevent overheating
  • Leave space for clothes to tumble and dry properly
  • Choose the right heat setting based on fabric care labels (e.g., low for delicates, high for towels)
  • Check for loose items like coins or buttons before loading

Don’t:

  • Overload the dryer, which restricts airflow and wears out parts
  • Over-dry clothes, which can cause damage and wrinkles
  • Use the wrong heat setting, which can harm clothes and overwork the dryer
  • Let small items bounce around, which can damage the drum and make noise

Let’s all do our part to keep the laundry rooms clean, efficient and running smoothly for everyone.

Landscapers Need Breaks, Too

From neatly trimmed lawns to carefully edged sidewalks, our landscaping crews work hard to keep the community looking beautiful. With more than 310 acres of turf, 170 acres of shrubs and 152 miles of edging, plus trees, slopes and seasonal plantings, there’s a lot of ground to cover.

So, if you see a crew sitting in the shade near your manor, they’re not slacking off. They’re taking a well-deserved break.

Landscaping staff begin their day at 7 a.m. at the maintenance yard, where they receive their daily assignments. From there, they spread out across the community to tackle everything from mowing to pruning. California labor law requires two 10-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch, and more frequent rest when temperatures exceed 80 degrees.

Since there’s no time to return to the maintenance yard for breaks, crews typically rest close to where they’re working. You might see them gathered under a shady tree, eating lunch or rehydrating. Some bring folding chairs to make the most of their short downtime.

Around 3 p.m., crews return to the yard to document their day’s work and wrap up by 3:30 p.m.

Please join us in showing appreciation for these essential workers who spend long hours outdoors keeping the community thriving. A simple smile or wave goes a long way.
