Measuring and Comparing VMS Success

Over the past several months, the VMS board of directors has been guiding VMS Inc. executive leadership through “benchmarking,” a process that compares an organization, its operations and/or processes with others in the same industry or in the broader marketplace. Benchmarking helps companies generate ideas for improving processes, approaches and technologies to reduce costs, strengthen customer satisfaction and provide a blueprint for continuous improvement.

After significant research and several reviews, the VMS Benchmarking Report – September 2024 is available to Laguna Woods Village members. The report aims to guide VMS’ efforts in improving performance, practices and strategic planning, and provide members with a greater understanding of VMS services and how its costs compare with similar organizations.

Report Research and Comparisons

The report compares services and costs of VMS Inc.’s nine departments with services provided by for-profit companies, government entities and age-restricted sister communities such as Leisure World Seal Beach and Rossmoor Walnut Creek. VMS staff research included budget and website reviews, interviews, quotes, service levels, requests for proposals and labor costs.

What the Results Say

The VMS Benchmarking Report – September 2024 highlights that services delivered by VMS are delivered at a lower cost than comparable organizations; greater service levels are commensurate with greater costs where applicable.                

Research showed that as a self-managed, member-owned, not-for-profit company, VMS holds distinct advantages over the entities analyzed, including cost control, service levels and economies of scale. Other advantages include member engagement, flexibility and responsiveness to member needs, and members’ ability to prioritize transparency and accountability.

산불 및 대기 질 경보

산불은 무섭습니다. 특히 공항 화재처럼 집 근처에서 발생할 때는 더욱 그렇습니다. 오렌지 카운티 주민들이 지역 화재 발생 상황을 최신 상태로 유지하는 가장 좋은 방법은 오렌지 카운티 소방국(Orange County Fire Authority)을 방문하는 것입니다. OCFA.org 또는 다음을 따르세요 x.com/OCFireAuthority캘리포니아 산불에 대한 추가 정보는 여기에서 확인하세요. fire.ca.gov/incidents.

Light Up Hope OC’

As part of its ongoing commitment to raising awareness and spreading hope, the OC Health Care Agency (HCA) announces the return of the “Light Up Hope OC” campaign during the month of September for Suicide Prevention Month. The campaign aligns with the statewide “Strive for Zero” initiative, an effort to prevent suicides. The County of Orange will light up county administration buildings in teal and purple, the official colors of suicide prevention.
“Light Up Hope OC shows the county’s commitment to suicide prevention for all and especially for at-risk populations hardest hit by suicide deaths, historically, like veterans, older adults, members of the LGBTQ+ community and immigrant populations,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Donald P. Wagner, Third District, who emphasized that help is available. “If you or someone you know are struggling with suicidal thoughts, please call 9-8-8, or visit lightuphopeoc.com for resources.”
“Even one suicide is one too many,” said Dr. Veronica Kelley, HCA Director. “Through the ‘Light Up Hope OC’ campaign, as well as the ongoing efforts of the HCA’s Office of Wellness and Suicide Prevention, we are striving for zero suicides in Orange County. We all play a role in preventing suicide. I encourage our OC community to support one another in prioritizing mental wellness and not be afraid to talk about suicide prevention with loved ones who may be struggling.”
