College Club Luncheon Meeting: January 15, 2025

PROGRAM: Diabetes Medications: Myths and Facts

The data is staggering. Diabetes in the United States is at epidemic proportions. Over 34 million Americans have diabetes, 90–95% of whom have Type 2, and over 88 million American adults have prediabetes (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2020). Furthermore, according to the American Diabetes Association 2021, the percentage of Americans aged 65 and older with diabetes remains high, at 29.2%, or 16.5 million seniors (diagnosed and undiagnosed). It is no wonder that so many reach for one of the many medications on the market while wondering “which one is the right one for me?”

College Club welcomes Endocrinologist Dr. Victor G. Ettinger, MD, MBA FACE, FACP, who will discuss the history of diabetes medications, where we are in 2024/2025, and what the future holds for these types of medications. He will also address wearable glucose monitors that provide the ability for patients and healthcare providers to have real time information and promise reliable therapy decisions with high treatment adherence.

Special Interest Groups

• Book Club:  Monthly book review
• Ethnic Dining: Experience ethnic foods in a social gathering in a restaurant setting. Members meet on the last Thursday of the month, except November and December.  We resume our dining experience in January.
