 Shuffleboard and Social Club

Welcome to the Laguna Woods Village Sport and Social Shuffleboard Club website.  The purpose of The Laguna Woods Sport and Social Club is to provide a social atmosphere for sportsmanship, fellowship, companionship, and recreation for the benefit of its members and the residents of Laguna Woods Village.

Shuffleboard is a fun game to play, for people of all ages and abilities, and it can have many benefits. There are many reasons to give it a try. Here are a few:

  • It’s a social game – If you’re playing doubles, you’ll take your turn and then have time to converse with your opponent while the members at the other end of the court plays.  It’s a very social sport.  Many members of our club have made friendships that extend far beyond the shuffleboard courts.  We’ve even had a few romances and marriages.
  • It’s easy to learn – We always have someone available to give lessons during our regular play hours on Mondays & Tuesdays at 9:30 and Thursdays at 5:30.  Stop by about 10 minutes before the game and introduce yourself.  Someone will always welcome you and line you up for a lesson.
  • A little competition is fun – There are many strategies involved in playing a game of shuffleboard, from protecting your scoring disk to putting your opponent in the kitchen.
  • It’s easy to start – almost anyone can play, including people with disabilities, and no partner is required.  All necessary equipment is provided.
  • You get some exercise – You exercise your entire body during play; arms, legs, backs.  After a game you will realize just how much energy you have expended.
  • You exercise your brain – Shuffleboard requires a lot of strategy and to play a successful game you will find yourself constantly thinking of the best next move you can make.
  • A sense of community – Beyond the courts, our club fosters a sense of community. Join us for our annual spring and holiday dinners, our lunches, our jackpot pizza nights, and our potlucks.  These are perfect opportunities to socialize, relax, and enjoy time with fellow members outside of regular play.

As a matter of safety please remember two things:  1) Never step on the courts, even if you are aware that the Poly Glide court-dressing has been removed.  2) You are not allowed to play wearing open-toed shoes or barefooted.

Important facts

The shuffleboard courts are conveniently located in a separate building behind Clubhouse 1 next to the Gazebo in the patio behind the Main Building for Clubhouse 1.  The Shuffleboard Court Building is most easily accessible utilizing the parking lot at the rear of the Clubhouse 1 Complex.  (The back parking lot is accessed by the peripheral road available by turning right after entering the Main Entrance for Clubhouse 1).  Look for our Shuffleboard feather flag.

Access to the Shuffleboard Court Building can be obtained only by a resident of Laguna Woods Village making a request that the club house door be opened at the Office of Clubhouse 1.  The office is located in the front, on the left side of the Main Building for Clubhouse 1.  Each person must sign the “sign in sheet”.

The shuffleboard courts are available only when Clubhouse 1 is open.  They are available to all residents and their guests for play, fun and recreation.  It is highly recommended that anyone wishing to play a game, first come to one of the clubs regularly scheduled play times and experience a few lessons.  Lessons are free and are given during each play time.

Instructions on preparing the courts, utilizing the lighting, fans and heating are posted on the bulletin board in the Shuffleboard Court Building.  Please follow the posted instructions.
