A new fire station is planned for Laguna Woods as part of an effort to strengthen emergency response coverage and meet growing service demand.
The Laguna Woods City Council has approved a lease agreement allowing the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) to build a new station at City Centre Park. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2029 and was made possible through state legislation approved in 2024.
Laguna Woods is one of 24 cities served by OCFA, which operates 78 fire stations across the region. Emergency services are dispatched based on proximity, meaning the closest available unit responds, regardless of station boundaries.
The addition of a new station reflects the high demand for service in the area. According to OCFA data, Station 22 in Laguna Woods is currently the busiest in the system, handling nearly 45,000 calls over a five-year period from 2019 to 2023, which is more than double the next busiest station.
Coverage maps presented by OCFA also show that adding a second station would significantly expand the area that can be reached within five minutes, improving response times across the community.
While the project is still several years away, the new station is expected to enhance emergency readiness and provide faster, more reliable service for Laguna Woods residents.
