Rainy season is just around the corner, meaning now is the time to prepare. When it rains, water flows directly into our creeks, rivers and ocean without being treated. This means anything on the ground, including dog waste, litter, pesticides or debris can be carried into the storm drain system and pollute our waterways.
Take simple steps now to help keep rainwater clean:
- Pick up dog waste with a bag, tie the bag and place it in a closed bin.
- Clear leaves and debris from gutters and downspouts.
- Keep all trash and recyclables in closed bins.
- Use pesticides sparingly, follow label directions and apply only on calm, dry days at least 48 hours before rain is expected.
