Resident Bicycle Registration Program<\/p>\n
Laguna Woods Village Security is providing a voluntary bicycle registration program for<\/p>\n
community residents to raise bicycle theft awareness and reduce the number of unrecovered<\/p>\n
bicycles throughout the Village.<\/p>\n
Why Register?<\/p>\n
In the event your bicycle is stolen, the Security Department can quickly locate your bike’s<\/p>\n
identifying information and provide it to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, which<\/p>\n
increases the chance of recovering your bicycle. Any information provided is confidential and is<\/p>\n
not shared outside of Laguna Woods Village or the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.<\/p>\n
Bicycle registration also aids in identifying residents in the event of a collision. Many bicyclists<\/p>\n
do not carry identification when out for a ride.<\/p>\n
How to Register<\/p>\n
Submit two photos of your bicycle: one full-frame photo and one photo of the serial number,<\/p>\n
which may be located in one of the areas:<\/p>\n

Rear stays<\/p>\n
Top of crank<\/p>\n
Headset<\/p>\n
Seat downtube next to crank<\/p>\n
If you need assistance with your photos, ask a neighbor or friend for help. You can email your<\/p>\n
application and photos to chief@vmsinc.org.<\/p>\n
Complete the attached bicycle registration form and return it to Security (along with your<\/p>\n
bicycle photos) to one of the addresses listed below. Personnel will enter your information into<\/p>\n
a departmentwide database.<\/p>\n

Always lock your bike, even if you leave it for just a moment.<\/p>\n
Always lock your bike\u2019s frame and wheels.<\/p>\n
Lock your bike even when it\u2019s stored in a garage or on a porch or a patio.<\/p>\n
Remove all detachable items such as lights, bags and quick-release parts.<\/p>\n
Lock your bicycle to a bike rack or a firmly affixed (bolts covered in concrete) object<\/p>\n
such as a parking meter or sign pole.<\/p>\n
Purchase the most expensive lock you can afford. U-locks are strong; better quality<\/p>\n
locks come with theft warranties.<\/p>\n
Only buy a U-lock with a flat or disc key; cylindrical-keyed locks are easier for thieves to<\/p>\n
