The City of Laguna Woods is developing new objective design standards that will guide future construction and renovations of commercial properties such as businesses, restaurants, offices, shopping centers and gas stations. These standards will shape how new commercial projects fit into the community, from accessibility and parking to building appearance and landscaping.
Topics under consideration include site design elements such as accessibility, landscaping, lighting and parking; bicycle, pedestrian and vehicle access; and building features including height, massing, materials and roof design.
These standards would apply only to future commercial projects. No specific project is being proposed at this time, and the standards would not apply to clubhouses, manors or other Laguna Woods Village properties.
Residents are invited to take part in an interactive community workshop on Monday, January 26, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Laguna Woods City Hall (24264 El Toro Road). The workshop gives participants a chance to learn how design standards influence development and to share their thoughts on how future commercial spaces should look, feel and function.
Residents who wish to attend are asked to RSVP by Friday, January 23, at 5 p.m. To RSVP, contact Laguna Woods City Hall at 949-639-0500 或者 cityhall@cityoflagunawoods.org.
