GENERAL REQUIREMENTS<\/p>\n

DEFINITION<\/p>\n
21<\/p>\n
\u201cTubular skylight\u201d refers to skylights with a cylindrical roof-mounted<\/p>\n
light collector typically consisting of an acrylic lens set in a metal frame<\/p>\n
A reflective sun scoop in the rooftop assembly directs sunlight into a<\/p>\n
metal or plastic tube with a highly reflective interior coating. The<\/p>\n
reflective tube guides sunlight to a diffuser lens mounted on the interior<\/p>\n
ceiling surface that spreads light throughout the room.<\/p>\n
2.2<\/p>\n
Tubular skylights are sold under several different brand names. For the<\/p>\n
purpose of definition, some of the more common brand names include:<\/p>\n
Solatube, Daylight, Solar Bright, Sun-Dome, Sun-Tek, True Light, etc.<\/p>\n
3.0<\/p>\n
APPLICATIONS<\/p>\n
3.41<\/p>\n
All roofing work shall be in strict conformance with current building<\/p>\n
codes and any applicable Mutual standard drawings.<\/p>\n
3.2<\/p>\n
Notification: Member must notify the Alterations Division office of any<\/p>\n
broken\/damaged roofing materials, before any installation begins.<\/p>\n
Additional roofing materials may be required for typical installations,<\/p>\n
due to breakage\/damage. Member is responsible for restoring the roof<\/p>\n
to its original pre-installation condition, regardless of the amount of<\/p>\n
replacement required. All materials will match the existing
\nmanufacturer and color or approved equal by the Permits and<\/p>\n
Inspections office.<\/p>\n
3.3<\/p>\n
Final Inspection: During the final inspection, should the Alterations<\/p>\n
Division office notice damaged\/broken roofing materials that appear to<\/p>\n
be caused by the installer\/installation and absent prior notice of<\/p>\n
damage, the Member will be responsible for the proper repair(s).<\/p>\n
3.4<\/p>\n
ASBESTOS: Installations in existing acoustical sprayed ceilings may<\/p>\n
encounter asbestos. The Member(s) must assure that the<\/p>\n
requirements of federal, state and local government regarding<\/p>\n
asbestos removal procedures are met or exceeded.<\/p>\n
3.5<\/p>\n
No units shall be installed with the edge of the tubular skylight flashing<\/p>\n
within 12″ of any vent, ridge or vertical structure.<\/p>\n
3.6<\/p>\n
Hypolon skirts will not be permitted as acceptable flashings.<\/p>\n
3.7<\/p>\n
All tubular skylight flashings are required to be minimum 8\u201d in height.<\/p>\n
3.8<\/p>\n
All tubular skylight installations require a 2\u201d Turret Extension to<\/p>\n
conform to Mutual Standards height requirements.<\/p>\n
3.9<\/p>\n
All tubular skylight flashings and related parts to be painted either Flat<\/p>\n
Black (BUR Roofs); Flat Black or Orange (Tile and Metal Shingle<\/p>\n
Roofs); Flat Black or Tan (Comp\/Shingle Roofs) or to match color<\/p>\n
scheme of roof.<\/p>\n
3.10<\/p>\n
Products: Henry Asphalt Primer (#103 or #105), Henry Cold-Ap<\/p>\n
Cement (#403), Henry Underlayment (#604), Henry Interply Adhesive<\/p>\n
(#902). Henry products may be substituted by an equal or better<\/p>\n
product. All substituted products require approval from the Permits<\/p>\n
and Inspections office.<\/p>\n
3.11<\/p>\n
No trusses shall be cut in the installation of the skylights.<\/p>\n
4.0<\/p>\n
INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
4.1<\/p>\n
FLAT ROOFS (Built Up Roofing)<\/p>\n
\u4e00\u4e2a<\/p>\n
10\u201d, 14\u201d and 16\u201d tubular skylights are the only size units<\/p>\n
approved for installation on BUR roofs.<\/p>\n
Spud back the perimeter around the flashing edge a minimum of<\/p>\n
10″ and maximum 14″, leaving roof surface smooth and gravel-<\/p>\n
free for primer and base felt application.
\nApply Henry Asphalt Primer to flashing and scraped\/spudded<\/p>\n
roof surface and let dry.<\/p>\n
Apply Henry Cold-Ap Cement # 403 to base of flashing per<\/p>\n
manufacturer’s specifications and press in place. Nail aluminum<\/p>\n
base through raised surface of outer ring, 10 inches on center.<\/p>\n
(First Ply\/Base Ply)<\/p>\n
Apply Henry Cold-Ap Cement # 403 at the rate of 2 gallons per<\/p>\n
100 sq. ft. and cover with Henry Fiberglass ply sheet 25Ib #604<\/p>\n
starting at vertical surface across the flashing and over roof<\/p>\n
surface to a point three (3) inches beyond the edge of the<\/p>\n
flashing.<\/p>\n
(Second and Third Ply)<\/p>\n
Apply Henry Interply Adhesive #902 and a second ply of Henry<\/p>\n
Fiberglass Ply Sheet #604 two (2) inches beyond the perimeter<\/p>\n
of the base ply and continue across roof, terminating at vertical<\/p>\n
surface, allowing the Henry Interply Adhesive #902 to ooze out<\/p>\n
slightly onto the vertical surface and above the ply. Apply a third<\/p>\n
ply of Henry Fiberglass Ply Sheet #604 two (2) inches beyond<\/p>\n
the perimeter of second ply and continue across roof,<\/p>\n
terminating at vertical surface and again allow the Henry<\/p>\n
Fiberglass Ply Sheet #604 to ooze out slightly onto the vertical<\/p>\n
surface and above the ply. Both plies to be embedded in Henry<\/p>\n
Cold-Ap Cement # 403 at the rate of 2 gallons per 100 sq. ft.<\/p>\n
Apply one layer of \u201cMB Cap embedded in Henry Cold-Ap<\/p>\n
Cement # 403 at the rate of 2 gallons per 100 sq. ft. starting at<\/p>\n
the bottom of the vertical surface across the newly installed<\/p>\n
plies, to a point seven (7) inches away from the flashing edge<\/p>\n
and embed #11 Granule Aggregate or cap sheet (if flat or built<\/p>\n
up roof (BUR) is cap sheet).<\/p>\n
If cap sheet is used, nail perimeter of cap sheet 4 inches on<\/p>\n
center. Apply a 3 coarse application over cap sheet edge using<\/p>\n
Henry Cold-Ap Cement # 403 and webbing.<\/p>\n
Reapply gravel evenly to entire area, stopping at the tubular<\/p>\n
skylight vertical surface.<\/p>\n
4.2<\/p>\n
3 STORY BUILDINGS<\/p>\n
Installation of tubular skylights on all three-story buildings are to follow<\/p>\n
Mutual Standards for Built-Up Roofing with the following changes:
\nInstall a (1) one-layer 5\/8\u201d type X drywall chase around the<\/p>\n
reflective tube. Drywall chase to be inclusive of attic area and to<\/p>\n
start from drywall ceiling and terminate at plywood roof<\/p>\n
sheathing. Each end and all incisions into the drywall chase to<\/p>\n
be filled with drywall compound.<\/p>\n
4.3<\/p>\n
PITCHED ROOFS: All pitched roof (over 3:12) installations shall be as<\/p>\n
follows:<\/p>\n
4.3.1 Asphalt Composition Shingles<\/p>\n
10\u201d and 14\u201d tubular skylights are the only size units approved for<\/p>\n
installation on pitched Composition Shingle roofs in Third Mutual.<\/p>\n
\u4e00\u4e2a<\/p>\n
Pitched Metal Flashing: The powder coated black epoxy based<\/p>\n
finish applied over a 0.032 in. thick aluminized steel stamped<\/p>\n
seamless flashing with 32 total added rigid ribs and 8 pre-<\/p>\n
punched fastener holes shall be laced into existing Asphalt<\/p>\n
Composition Shingles as existing roof jacks are installed.<\/p>\n
Metal Turret Extension: Shall be installed onto Pitched Metal<\/p>\n
Flashings with a polyurethane sealant and screwed into flashing<\/p>\n
with (4) #8×1\/2 philip head, self-tapping stainless steel screws.<\/p>\n
Turret Shroud: Shall be installed onto Pitched Metal Flashing<\/p>\n
and Turret Extension.<\/p>\n

No caulking will be used as primary water leak protection.<\/p>\n
4.3.2 Concrete & Clay Tile<\/p>\n
10\u201d and 14\u201d tubular skylights are the only size units approved for<\/p>\n
installation on all tile roofs in Third Mutual.<\/p>\n

Counterbase Flashing: injected molded polypropylene CC2<\/p>\n
classified, 30% mica filled .125 inch thick mold tech pattern<\/p>\n
MT 11365 finish base flashing shall be installed between rafters<\/p>\n
and be laced into existing underlayment as existing roof jacks<\/p>\n
are installed.<\/p>\n

Monier concrete tiles over space sheathing and\/or<\/p>\n
plywood with no underlayment do not require the<\/p>\n
installation of a Counterbase Flashing.
\nSecondary Flashing: Polypropylene (Tile Retro Kit for 10\u201d<\/p>\n
Solatubes) or .060 inch thick A93003 aluminum secondary pre-<\/p>\n
formed flashing shall be installed over Counterbase Flashing.<\/p>\n
Polypropylene Turret Extension: shall be installed onto<\/p>\n
Secondary Flashing with a polyurethane sealant and screwed<\/p>\n
into flashing with (4) #8×1\/2\u201d philip head, self-tapping stainless<\/p>\n
steel screws.<\/p>\n
Turret Shroud: shall be installed onto Secondary Flashing and<\/p>\n
Turret Extension.<\/p>\n

All tiles shall be saw cut and not “broken to fit”.<\/p>\n
4.3.3 Metal Shingles<\/p>\n
10\u201d and 14\u201d tubular skylights are the only size units approved for<\/p>\n
installation on all tile roofs in Third Mutual. Single flashing permitted<\/p>\n
only on metal shingle roofs.<\/p>\n
