Sunlight lovers will rejoice on Sunday, March 8, when our clocks once again move ahead one hour at 2 a.m., returning to us an hour of daylight in the evening hours. However, for others, it is one less hour to hunker down under the covers (and it’s darker in the morning), making this a tough transition. Here are some tips for adjusting to the time change:

  • When the time first changes, it can be harder to fall asleep at your usual bedtime.
  • To avoid losing an hour of sleep, plan to go to bed an hour earlier on Saturday, March 7.
  • Avoid caffeine in the hours leading up to bedtime.
  • Wind down before bed with relaxing activities like reading.
  • While you adjust, try to avoid daytime napping, which will only delay returning to a good sleep schedule.
  • Take midday walks outside to take advantage of prime daylight hours.
