Your Feedback Helps Rescue Village Pets
When disaster strikes, most animal deaths occur within the first 24 to 48 hours, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Post-Hurricane Katrina in 2005, 80% to 85% of pets were never reunited with their owners because there were no rescue plans that involved pets.
To prevent Village residents and their animal companions from experiencing a similar outcome in the event of a disaster, GRF appointed a volunteer group of resident animal lovers to create a disaster preparedness plan for community pets. This Disaster Preparedness Task Force subcommittee created a survey, “2020 Survey of Laguna Woods Village Residents with Pets,” to determine where pets live in the Village, as well as how many and what kind of pets live in each household.
