Respond to the 2020 Census
The U.S. Census Bureau distributed invitations in mid-March to complete the 2020 Census, with instructions to respond online, by phone or by mail. By April 1, all homes should have received an invitation to participate.
Self-response to the 2020 Census takes on even greater significance at this time, as it will help with the planning for emergency situations, such as the one we are currently experiencing, and help protect the public and Census employees by avoiding in-person visits during the nonresponse follow-up period, which is May to July.
What U.S. residents can expect next:
- May to July: Census takers will begin visiting homes that haven’t responded to the 2020 Census invitation.
- December: The Census Bureau will deliver apportionment counts to the President and Congress as required by law.
If you need help completing your 2020 Census questionnaire, Laguna Woods City Hall is a 2020 Census Assistance Center. City staff are available to help you complete your questionnaire or provide assistance if you misplaced or did not receive your questionnaire. Please call 949-639-0500 or email email@example.com.
United residents: If you are unsure about how to answer Question 3, which asks “Is this house, apartment, or mobile home” “Owned by you or someone in this household with a mortgage or loan,” “Owned by you or someone in this household free and clear (without a mortgage or loan),” “Rented” or “Occupied without payment or rent,” United Board Secretary Juanita Skillman contacted U.S. Census 2020 officials for the correct designation. According to officials, the answer United residents should answer is “Owned by you or someone in this household with a mortgage or loan.”
Regarding Question 9: Whether you're filling out your census form online or hard copy, you may enter as many ethnicity designations as applicable. Simply enter on the paper form or fill in the online field. Separate your listing with commas.
