City of Laguna Woods to Celebrate Black History Month

The City of Laguna Woods and Laguna Woods African American Heritage Club will host a special reception commemorating Black History Month on Thursday, February 22 at Laguna Woods City Hall. The reception, which starts at 7 p.m., will feature brief remarks from several prominent and trailblazing African American leaders including Laguna Woods resident Ollie Darling Whitaker, Orange County’s first African American K-12 teacher; Kathryn McCullough, the county's first African American Mayor and City Council member; and Reverend Mark E. Whitlock, Jr. of COR Church - AME. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

Space is limited so RSVP by calling City Hall at 949-639-0500.

Work on Pool 4 is nearly complete

Pool 4 is popular for therapeutic swimming and is expected to reopen at the end of this month. In January, cracks were discovered in the pool's shell during regular annual maintenance. The cracks were repaired before the pool was re-plastered and re-tiled, which impacted its re-opening date, but was necessary to rehabilitate the pool.  Take a dip in Pool 1, which is heated to 86 degrees, for therapeutic swimming.
