What's Up in the Village

At the May 16 Third Board meeting, Third President Rosemarie diLorenzo Dickens (left) and Village Security Chief Tim Moy (far right) presented commendations to (left to right) Security Officers Dury Cords and Gary Chase and Third resident Sharon Scott for assisting in the arrest of an alleged burglar. Third Resident Anita Gosch (not pictured) also received a commendation.

Several Cul-de-Sacs Temporarily Closed for Memorial Day Race

On Memorial Day, May 29, 2017, the City of Laguna Hills will host its annual Memorial Day Half-Marathon, 5k, and 10K, Honoring the United States Marine Corps Dark Horse Battalion. The half-marathon, 5K and 10K start in front of the Saddleback Memorial Medical Center and finish at the Laguna Hills Community Center. Visit lagunahillshalfmarathon.com for more information.

Please note: A portion of the race will come through the Gate 2 area of Laguna Woods Village. The race starts on Calle de La Louisa, enters Laguna Woods Village by way of Gate 2, traverses around a certified/sanctioned course on Via Estrada, to Calle Aragon, to Avenida Sevilla, to Avenida Majorca and back to Via Estrada and back out Gate 2 again. The following Cul-de-sacs will be closed from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. on race day: 9, 10, 21, 22, 23, 24, 40, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60 and 61. Gates 2 and 4 will be closed from 5:45 to 8:30 a.m. Gates 1 and 3 will be open for the duration of the race. The course will be liberally marked with CLOSED and NO TRAFFIC signs.

These closure times are approximate and may open earlier. We understand that gate closures and delays are an inconvenience, but for the safety of participants and residents, we ask for your cooperation.

Recreation Division to Honor Loved Ones of Fallen Veterans and at Memorial Day Event

The true meaning of Memorial Day is to bring national awareness and reverence, honoring those who died while defending our Nation and its values.The Recreation and Special Events Department would like to honor the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

Recreation will commemorate fallen veterans during their Memorial Day event at the Performing Arts Center (PAC), Monday May 29 at noon. There is no cost to attend the event, but please pick up advance tickets at the PAC box office. Click here for more information.

No Short-Term Vacation Rentals Allowed in Laguna Woods Village

Browsing Air B&B? Beware—short-term vacation rentals are not allowed in the Village.

In order to rent your unit, many qualifications must be met, including:

Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action, including fines up to $500.

Mutual "Funds": On Friday, May 26, Friends of the Village invites you to its general meeting, where the topic of discussion will be ways the housing mutuals can increase income and reduce dependence on assessments. The meeting takes place at 2 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, Dining Room 1. There is no charge to attend and refreshments will be served.

Going, Going, Gone: The Golden Rain Foundation is auctioning off a number of obsolete items,  including office furniture, such as chairs, desks and filing cabinets; video cameras; and vehicles, including a 1998 Ford Ranger in fair condition. Click here for info.
