Building and Block Captains Needed!

Have you ever considered serving as a Building or Block Captain? The position is a great way to stay involved, meet new people, and contribute to a friendly and safe community. Whether it is supporting neighbors or acting as a liaison to the various boards or staff, Captains play an important part in preserving the high standard of living that has come to be expected of this exclusive retirement community.

The Disaster Preparedness Task Force provides training opportunities throughout the year including introductory Good Neighbor Captain training. Please volunteer to be that important person and make a difference in your community. Ask for details at disasterpreparedness@vmsinc.org or attend the next Captain Training with Chief Moy on March 7, 2017 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at Clubhouse 7 in the Main Lounge.

Heavy Rain and Winds Hit Laguna Woods

Heavy rain and wind has hit Southern California again, and Laguna Woods Village is prepared. The rain is expected to occur through Saturday, February 18, and will be heavy at times. Be careful when walking or driving when rushing water is present in streets, and please avoid Aliso Creek during this time period. It is advised that residents stay home when possible during the downpours.

Laguna Woods Village has initiated its Rain Event Action Plan, and extra staff and an executive manager are on hand during the weekend. For rain-related issues, fallen trees, or to request sandbags, please call Resident Services during normal business hours at 949-597-4600 or Security Dispatch after hours at 949-580-1400. In case of emergency, residents should call 911.

Third Mutual Appoints Jules Zalon to Fill Board Vacancy

On February 14, 2017, the Third Board of Directors appointed Jules Zalon to fill a vacancy term ending in 2018. Jules is a a-year resident of the Village who is active in many clubs. An entertainment lawyer by trade, he is excited to bring his legal expertise, as well as his passion for the environment, to the Third Board. Jules has volunteered in most communities where he has lived, from his time as a volunteer civil rights lawyer in New York, to co-organizing the Hudson River Sloop Restoration project with Pete Seeger.

Prior to his appointment to the Third Board, Jules served as advisor to the Third Maintenance and Construction Committee. Welcome, Jules!

United to Host Town Hall on Topic of Common Area Land Use

The United Board invites its members to a special Town Hall meeting on Land Use.

The meeting is being held so the Board can get a sense of what residents think of allowing individual Members to exclusively use common area around their units, outside of the original footprint, for their own personal use.

The United Board will discuss the exclusive use of common area by residents, allowing both sides of the matter to be presented. Residents will be able to ask questions and make comments. At the end of the Town Hall, there will be a survey to help United gauge the opinion of its residents on the issue.

The Town Hall Meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. If you can't make it in person, the Town Hall will be broadcast live and replayed on Channel 6 at the following dates and times:

Tuesday, February 28 at 4:30 p.m. (LIVE)
Thursday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m.
Wednesday, March 8 at 06:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 16 at 06:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 18 at 12:00 p.m.
